Giving Methods
Cash
A gift of a personal check is the most popular way to give to the FHSU Foundation. You receive a full tax benefit if you itemize deductions. Checks should be made payable to the FHSU Foundation and mailed to PO Box 1060, Hays, KS 67601.

Credit Cards
Credit cards are a fast and easy way to make a contribution and provide FHSU with funds immediately. To make a credit card gift, call the toll-free number, 1-888-628-1060, or Give Online.

Gifts of Securities
A gift of stock that has grown in value will provide support for FHSU at the full market value and you avoid a capital gains tax. You can take a charitable deduction on your federal income tax return for the market value of the securities at the time of stock transfer.

Pledges
Commitments made to annual and capital campaigns as pledges can be paid over time.

Matching Gifts
Recognizing the importance of philanthropy, numerous employers offer matching gift programs as a benefit to their current and retired employees, and in some instances, employees’ spouses. Contributors can have their contributions doubled or tripled. Contact your employer’s human resources office to see if they have a matching gift program.

Personal Property
A gift of tangible personal property, which is appreciated in value over a period of time, qualifies for a charitable deduction equal to the property's full fair market value, subject to the 30 percent limitation in any one tax year. The use of the property must relate to the university functions. Established works of art (not created by the donor), rare books and collections of scholarly interest, are examples of such property. Marketable tangible personal property not usable by the university can also be a helpful contribution, although the tax benefit to the donor is somewhat less.

Life Insurance
If you own a life insurance policy and no longer need its protection, you may name the FHSU Foundation as a sole and irrevocable owner and beneficiary of the policy. You may also purchase and transfer a new irrevocable policy to the Association. Either approach will result in a charitable income tax deduction approximately equal to the cash surrender value of the policy on the date of the gift. You may claim additional charitable income tax deductions for the amount of any subsequent premium payments.

Real Estate
Tax benefits of giving real estate are generally the same as for gifts of securities. When appreciated property is given, you receive a deduction for the full value of the asset, while avoiding the capital gains tax.
Gift of Grain
By donating grain, farmers have the ability to make a gift to Fort Hays State University in a unique way. For many cash basis farmers, significant tax savings can be achieved by donating crops directly to the Fort Hays State University Foundation.

The Wooster Society recognizes those individuals who have developed an estate plan or other deferred gift arrangement that will ultimately benefit Fort Hays State University.

For information and/or assistance in making a gift to Fort Hays State University contact the FHSU Foundation toll free at 888-628-1060 and ask to speak to one of the following development officers:
