The Fort Hays State University Allied Health Department offers academic and clinical programs in Radiologic Technology, Medical Diagnostic Imaging and Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The department offers an Associate Degree in Radiology and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Diagnostic Imaging.
Students receive extensive classroom training and 12 months of clinical supervision before completing the program, all of which requires costly and periodic equipment updates. By meeting identified departmental needs listed on this sheet, the Department of Allied Health can stay abreast of medical technology.
Department of Allied Health Needs
Medical Imaging Phantoms $24,000
Medical imaging phantoms are used as a teaching tool to simulate the ultrasound images that a human body would produce. Imaging phantoms are valuable resources in preparing students for what they will experience when placed in hospitals and radiology centers during clinical rotations.
Mobile imaging radiographic unit $18,000
Instructs students in the use of portable radiographic units on patients who
cannot be moved to a radiology center.
Wireless Digital Detection System $150,000
The system captures radiographic images and digitizes them so they can be
stored where multiple end users can access them.
Simulated Patient $30,000
Growing enrollment increases class size and decreases the amount of time each
student has to work with a single simulator. An additional simulated patient
will give students more access to this teaching technology.
CT Simulator Software licensing $15,000
Software licenses for computers in the student research and study lounge
