Endowed chairs and professorships are key in attracting and retaining the most outstanding and inspiring faculty at FHSU.
A dynamic faculty member inspires students to embrace the challenge of their coursework. These professors also lead in their fields, publish works in books and academic journals, conduct relevant research that involves students, and most of all, they thrive on classroom interaction.
The university must do everything it can to attract, encourage and retain these first-rate instructors.
A donation to FHSU can establish a chair or professorship in someone’s name. It could be named for a loved one or mentor, for example.
The endowed fund can support research, equipment, graduate assistant pay, travel, salary stipends and other forms of faculty assistance.Endowed chairs and professorships are not intended to replace normal salary compensation from the university in any way.
This type of investment will not only impact a faculty member, but the students at FHSU. It is truly a gift that continues giving forever.
An endowed position can help a faculty member develop new programming around their classes, upgrade or purchase new equipment or attend regional symposia and professional conferences to share research with those inside and outside the academic community. To be exceptional instructors they must also have resources to keep abreast of the latest technologies in their professions.
Significant Benefits in Addition to Academics
The State of Kansas funds the Faculty of Distinction program, which matches allocations on endowed chairs and professorships, giving a donor’s investment double impact. The state-funded match is available when the chair or professorship is fully funded.
