FHSU graduates reflect a strong sense of fairness and believe in paying back what has been given to them. Having scholarship funds for deserving FHSU students is key to providing the next generation with numerous opportunities in higher education.
FHSU sustained us in the past. Now it's time to continue this tradition to those who follow, and one of the most immediate ways to do that is through scholarships. Scholarships are important because they attract and reward
exceptional, highly motivated students who make up a well-rounded academic environment. These students contribute to the community, encourage their peers and enhance the prestige of the university.
Scholarships also ease the increasing financial burden of education. In the 1960's tuition was $125 per semester and students could pay their own way with part-time employment at minimum wage. Those days are long gone. Today, a full year at Fort Hays State costs between $12,000 and $15,000. The average student debt is $17,000 and many owe considerably more. Most students are from families of modest means, and 80 percent of them hold part-time jobs during school to make ends meet.
Students at FHSU are worthy recipients of scholarship funds. More than 40 percent of current students graduated in the top quarter of their high school classes and 55 percent graduated from high school with a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
In countless ways, Fort Hays State University makes a promise to young adults. Come here and we will meet your expectations. We will help you find your place in the world.
