Department of TECHNOLOGY STUDIES

The Department of Technology Studies prepares students for careers in drafting, metal work and wood and construction technology in industry and education fields. Graduates are highly sought after and quickly assume leadership positions.

The department offers degrees with an emphasis in Industrial Technology or Technology Education. Students pursuing the Industrial Technology emphasis can specialize in Construction Technology, Manufacturing Technology or Communications Technology. Students in Technology Education choose from three concentrations: Production Systems; Power, Energy Systems and Transportation Systems; or Communication Systems.

Department of Technology Studies Needs

Larger Format Printer $6,000
The department’s large printer is 12 years old and has a limited life
expectancy. The large printer is used for architectural plans and graphic
posters. The newest printing technology would be a great asset to the communications area.

Total Station and Laser Level $12,000
The construction industry has become hi-tech with GPS measuring devices. Students need the opportunity to work with traditional construction tools and to become familiar with the latest construction technologies as well. The total station will help with applications such as land surveying and construction stake-out. Construction students who understand this equipment are leaders in the industry.

Classroom Robotics Design Lab Kit $6,000
This system of design components will allow students to design and build robotics systems to solve engineering problems. The system includes advanced sensors, advanced drive systems, special pneumatic systems, advanced programming software and a curriculum to be used with Autodesk design products.

Full Size CNC Wood Lathe $15,000
The construction facility needs to increase its Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine capabilities. A compliment to the existing CNC router would be a CNC wood lathe which could produce spindle-shaped components for furniture and cabinets. This would replace a manual wood lathe. This new equipment would enhance students’ ability toprogram and operate machinery similar to what is used in industry.
