The 3rd Annual Tiger Auction was a Success!

5th Annual Tiger Auction (2014)

Bid numbers were flying throughout the Fort Hays State University Ballroom Saturday evening at the 5th Annual Tiger Auction and Dinner. Not only was the event an excellent way to kick-off FHSU's 2014-2015 athletic season, but over $211,000 was raised during the evening! The Tiger Auction and Dinner took place Saturday, August 23 and proceeds will benefit the Fort Hays State University Athletic Department. With more than 450 Tiger fans in attendance, the event was filled with over 300 items, both large and small. Whether people were looking for a vacation getaway, work by a local artist, or a co-coaching experience at an FHSU game, the Auction certainly had something for everyone.

"Once again, we were in awe of the generosity of those in attendance and of the items donated for the event," Curtis Hammeke, FHSU Director of Athletics said. "Through a unified team effort, this event has provided great resources to enhance our ability to improve facilities and grow scholarships, which are two integral pieces of the recruiting process. The Tiger Auction has been instrumental in recent years in allowing us to address both! The fact that we netted $211,000 this year is exciting. This number continues our upward trend throughout the last five years and we hope the event continues to grow."

Prior to the Live Auction kicking off, Curtis Hammeke surprised the crowd with some special guests by bringing in every Tiger student-athlete. Once the 450+ student-athletes had filled the room, the FHSU marching band began playing the Fort Hays State fight song. Needless to say, being surrounded by the music and the assembly of students pepped everyone up for the Live Auction, which included 97 items. After all, the goal of the Tiger Auction and Dinner is to support FHSU's Department of Athletics, and these students are at the heart of it all.

The most successful portion of the night revolved around Live Auction Item #40, which concentrated on additional funding needed for scholarships in support of student-athletes at Fort Hays State University. More than $72,000 was generated from Live Auction Item #40! Thanks to the generous financial support that was received, FHSU's Athletic Department will have the opportunity to stay on pace with the rising costs of education as it pertains to scholarships. The intent of Live Auction Item #40 this year was to ensure the athletic scholarship program at FHSU not only maintains current expectations, but is able to continue to grow!

Those who participated in Live Auction Item #40 at the $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000 levels will be invited to a special reception with a select group of athletes.

“As the committee chairperson this year, I can’t say thank you enough to all of the committee volunteers and Fort Hays State University staff for all of their hard work in support of FHSU Athletics,” said Kara Moore, Tiger Auction Committee Chairperson. “There’s so much planning that takes place for this annual event and it wouldn’t be possible without our committee, the area businesses who donate such great items, as well as those who attend this sold-out event each year. It’s amazing to see the amount of support and Tiger pride that everyone shows towards the athletes."

THANK YOU to Eagle Communications and to the many businesses and individuals who have shown their incredible support to assure the success of the 2014 Tiger Auction and Dinner.

Mark your calendars for the 6th Annual Tiger Auction and Dinner, which will take place Saturday, August 22, 2015!
