I Fed the Tiger Home Banner

The 35th annual Tiger Call Phonathon is just around the corner. Eight seasoned veterans will be joined by some freshly recruited students to be on the frontlines of fundraising for Fort Hays State University. With more than 25,000 callable records our student callers already have their work cut out for them. New caller training will begin in the second week of September and the phones will go live on Monday, September 17th.

Calls will be going out from the basement of the Robbins Center Monday – Thursday from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM Central Time and on Sundays from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM.

The Phonathon callers repeatedly express how exciting it is to talk to alumni who used to be in the same shoes, and classes, that they are now. When you get your Tiger Call please take some time to talk to our students and share your stories. If your phone number ever changes throughout the year please make sure you contact the FHSU Foundation to let us know. We wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity to speak with you.

I urge you to put our callers and myself to work. Tiger Call is a great method for keeping up-to-date about the various goings-on at FHSU. Ask our students what it is like now; ask them what has changed since you were on campus. Ask them if your favorite professor is still teaching. If they can’t find the answer when you are on the phone, I can certainly figure it out the next day. Tiger Call is a two way street. It is our chance to make sure we are up-to-date with you, but it is also a great opportunity for you to ask questions about Fort Hays.

Finally, our Tiger Callers will be asking you to support them. With shrinking state budgets private support is more important than ever. Fort Hays State University is the great university that it is today in no small part due to support from Tigers all across the country. We wouldn’t be setting records and serving well over 12,000 students without gifts from those who have already earned their stripes.

Join us. I highly encourage you to be part of the proud tradition that is the FHSU Black and Gold!

Thank you very much, and GO TIGERS!

"I was with the FHSU Singers in Ireland in 2000. My roommate and I were headed to our concert debut our first night there. As we walked through the hotel lobby an Irish gentleman complimented our tuxedos, glanced down, and said to my roomate with a scowl, 'but your shoes are dirty.' To this day we still give him a hard time about his shoes!"

"We had fun. We had A LOT of fun!!"

"While in school in the late 50’s, I was paid ONE CENT per minute to wax the floors of Picken Hall.  I loved that job!  I got in trouble, however, for being a bit too generous with the wax. I loved the shine, but students slid and fell as they came in from the winter weather!"

"I can still remember my lucky day in ’51 when the campus flooded and finals were cancelled!"
