A multipurpose indoor athletics training facility is needed to help address growth in athletic participation and lack of practice space at FHSU.
Gross Memorial Coliseum, built in the 1970s, still serves the department well for many sporting events and training, but has limited space for the year-round needs of multiple sports programs to maximize their individual and team performance goals.
The new training facility will be located at the southeast corner of the campus, near Lewis Field Stadium. This 50,000+ square-foot facility will be equipped with weights, cardio equipment, synthetic track and an artificial covered surface that will extend 50-60 yards.
All athletic programs will benefit from this facility. Not only will it be utilized by the football program during inclement weather, but all outdoor sports will use it for winter training.
Athletics is a window to the FHSU campus. Today, there are nearly 400 student athletes at FHSU competing in 16 men's and women's sports programs, and growing. The need to enhance and incorporate state-of-the-art facilities is vital to the success of current programs and to recruiting the most talented athletes in the region.
The Department of Athletics and the FHSU Foundation are working hand-in-hand to develop a facility that will suit the needs of a growing athletics program in an increasingly competitive MIAA conference. The final project, and thus the benefit that Tiger athletics will receive from the facility, is dependent on the generosity of all of us.
