4th Annual Tiger Auction (2013)
Tiger pride filled the Fort Hays State University ballroom Saturday evening at the 4th Annual Tiger Auction and Dinner. Not only was the event a great way to kick off the 2013-2014 FHSU Athletic season, but over $220,000 was raised throughout the evening! The Tiger Auction and dinner took place Saturday, August 24 and proceeds will benefit the FHSU Athletic Department. With more than 450 Tiger fans in attendance, the event was packed with over 300 items, both large and small. Whether people were looking for a vacation getaway, work by a local artist or a co-coaching experience at a FHSU game, the Auction certainly had something for everyone.
"Once again we were in awe of the generosity of those in attendance and of the items donated for the event," Curtis Hammeke, FHSU Director of Athletics said. "Through a unified team effort, this event has provided great resources to enhance our ability to recruit quality student athletes. Improving facilities and growing scholarships are two integral pieces of the recruiting process and the Tiger Auction has allowed us to address both."
Just as the dinner portion of the evening was drawing to an end, the FHSU marching band began playing the Fort Hays fight song. Needless to say, the music pepped everyone up for the live Auction, which included 91 items. The most successful portion of the night revolved around “Live Auction Item #40”, which concentrated on needs in Gross Memorial Coliseum. More than $80,000 was generated from Auction Item #40! Thanks to the generous financial support that was received, FHSU’s Athletic Department will have the opportunity to move forward on a renovation and replacement of equipment in the existing weight room, which will be used by men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, wrestling, cross country, softball, tennis and men’s and women’s golf. Additional equipment upgrades will include side court basketball goals and volleyball standards and a netting system.
As an Auction committee member for two years and committee chairman the past two years I’ve seen this event grow into a “Sold Out Community Event” with net proceeds benefiting FHSU athletics,” said Gary Wentling, Auction Committee Chairman. “The volunteer Auction committee is extremely thankful to area businesses, individuals and alumni who contribute in many ways to this annual event. Without those three elements, along with those attending and all the volunteer help this success could not be possible."
THANK YOU to the many businesses and individuals who have shown their incredible support to assure the success of the 2013 Tiger Auction and Dinner. A special thanks to our sponsors: Fort Hays State University Foundation, Eagle Communications, HaysMed and Heartland Building Center.
Mark your calendars for the 5th Annual Tiger Auction and Dinner, which will take place Saturday, August 23, 2014!
