A new introductory video of Cheyenne Bottoms is available for visitors to the Kansas Wetlands Education Center near Great Bend. The 15-minute video provides visitors with an overview of Cheyenne Bottoms and a glimpse of what they may see on a tour through the wetlands.

The video project was made possible through a $12,000 gift from the Dorothy M. Morrison Foundation.

“We wanted to give viewers a glimpse of how diverse Cheyenne Bottoms can be, including wildlife throughout the seasons,” said Curtis Wolf, center director.

“This video is loaded with hundreds of video clips showing everything from birds to insects, as well as many of the land management practices that make Cheyenne Bottoms one of the most unique destinations in the United States,” he said.

The video was filmed and produced by Mike Blair with contributions from center staff and staff from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, and The Nature Conservancy.

Viewers get a basic introduction to Cheyenne Bottoms. Segments showcase the wetlands center, the Department of Wildlife and Parks, Cheyenne Bottoms, and The Nature Conservancy’s Cheyenne Bottoms Preserve.

The video is available and offered to all visitors for viewing in the center’s Duane Shook Auditorium.

“We’ve already had great feedback,” said Wolf. “Viewers have most appreciated the diversity displayed in the video and have commented how excited they are to get out and see it for themselves.”
