Item #40 this year will be focused on the Lewis Field turf project which will begin following the 2024 Tiger football season. The project will include replacing the “shock pad” and playing surface at Lewis Field which was installed in 2013 and removing the existing track surface and covering it with a new surface.

The shock pad is an elastic layer placed under the turf which increases shock absorption thus providing numerous benefits including safety issues and limiting concussions, field drainage, and increasing the longevity of the turf.

This project was specifically targeted to begin after the 2024 season to make sure all dirt work and early building construction on the Bickle-Schmidt Athletic Complex was complete to make it feasible for both crews to work on their respective projects side by side and to protect a brand new turf from the dirt and debris of the new complex construction.

The total project cost is estimated to be around $1 million.

Donors at the $250 level or higher will be recognized in football and basketball programs throughout the year. All donations to Item #40 can be paid throughout the year and are tax deductible.
